From pre-cleaning to Nitrogen purging, we follow a specific pipeline pre-commissioning process to minimize room for error and stay on schedule. To prepare for each job, Ridge Runner typically makes a scouting visit to the site prior to returning for service.

Ridge Runner approaches each task as a safety-minded team. We have worked extensively with pipelines and understand the importance of accuracy in pre-commissioning, maintenance, and the cleaning/drying process. While working outdoors in West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, we are extremely environmentally conscious.

To complement our superior staff, we have a 10,000-sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility to house our brand new equipment, as well as demonstrate proper pipeline testing, cleaning, and drying procedures. We also share our pipeline inspection expertise with other companies and professionals in the industry by hosting service training sessions on launching and receiving pigs, filling techniques, pipeline dewatering operations, and more.

  • Pre-cleaning and Mechanical Gauge Pigging

Pipelines need to be pre-cleaned before operating to remove any debris that may have been left in the line during construction. Once a pipeline is deemed clean, a Pipeline Inspection Gauge (also known as a “pig”) with an aluminum sizing plate is launched to check for dents and ovalities.

  • Cleaning and Drying

Accuracy is critical for this particular stage, but, unfortunately, is most commonly not executed correctly across the industry. Thankfully, cleaning and drying pipelines is our area of expertise, and we are dedicated to being the model for other pipeline pre-commissioning companies to follow. Ridge Runner launches a combination of foam swabs, brush pigs, and Desiccant DryAir through each pipeline and can easily clean to a ¼″ dust penetration and dry to a -40℉ dew point.

  • Filling, Hydrostatic Testing, and Dewatering

Ridge Runner ensures all pipelines are filled at the best rate from a water source and the pipeline is pressurized (typically 500 PSI) so any air within the line will be absorbed and allowed to stabilize overnight to ensure a successful hydrostatic test the following morning. The hydro-test will be performed in a safe and controlled manner, typically 20% increments with 15 minute hold periods until test pressure is achieved. Once the test is completed, the pipeline will be depressurized to ambient pressure and dewatered back to the water source.

In order to serve our customers’ best interests, we offer additional services that make us the one-stop shop for all things commissioning. Contact us to learn how we can aid your pipeline projects.

  • Nitrogen Purging

Ridge Runner can provide Nitrogen for various applications. Whether purging the existing pipeline to remove hydrocarbons prior to maintenance operations or introducing natural gas to a new pipeline, we eliminate any potential explosive environments. We can also pack the pipelines with Nitrogen if the line is going into service at a later date to prevent internal rusting.

  • Equipment Rentals

While our business was built on performing pre-commissioning services for our customers and contractors, you can also rent launchers and receivers from us for your own use. We believe in serving others by sharing our pipeline industry knowledge and helping to assist them in whatever ways we can.

  • Smart Pig Assistance

Ridge Runner has a deep understanding of how important proper pig speed is when running a “smart pig.” Whether using a Caliper Survey Tool to check for dents and ovalities or using a tool to check for cracks and corrosion, we supply the correct air spread, help load the tool and launch, and maintain proper pig speed.

  • Pig Tracking

The oil and gas industry is so fast-paced, it takes serious innovation and advancement to keep up. We use only the most prestigious technology and equipment to our advantage when it comes to pig tracking and locating. This allows us to more easily navigate the search area in the event a pig does become lost or stuck in the pipeline. Our pig tracking method is especially helpful in pipelines that are not routinely inspected or have never been inspected.
